There is the ruins of a castle in the church grounds opposite the school.

    (continued from previous page)
There are three ruined monasteries and a church in the district. The church and monastery which are situated in Friar Street are very historical. It was built by the Butlers in the year 1291. This abbey was one of the finest abbeys in Ireland it was demonished in the reign of Queen Elizebeth in the year 1691.
There is also an old church and castle in Rathurles, they were built by the Normans hundreds of years ago.
