My Home District (ar lean)
“I live in the Parish of Nenagh, in the barony of Lower Ormonde and in the Diocese of Killaloe.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)which means "The" and "Aonach" which means "The Fair." The first "A" is dropped in each word and the letters "ch" are changed to "gh" thus giving the anglicised form Nenagh.
The houses were much more numerous long ago than they are to-day.
Several people of the olden times sold their homes and cleared off to America and their houses are now in ruins.
The Townland of Nenagh is mentioned in the song called "Bennets Flowery Vale."
All the land around the Nenagh is good and is mostly in pasture.
