  1. The following is a list of the farm animals at home: -- cows, horses, sheep, pigs, bullocks, heifers and asses. The domestic animals are the dog and the cat.
    The cows are given names to distinguish them, such as, White Stockings, Black Polly, The Strawberry Heifer, Bottle Tits, Old White Head, Short Horns, Long Legs and Old Heenan. When driving the cows in or out of a field I say, "How how".
    The cowhouse is a big long shed with a slate roof. The walls are whitewashed and it has four doors. It has a cement floor and two large windows. There is a passage at the cows' heads which is used when the cows are being fed. The person feeding them walks in this passage and puts the food under each cow's head. Behind the cows is a channel and another passage where the milk buckets are placed. The cows are all tied with chains which are made of iron.
