- (continued from previous page)from the milk, when it had to be washed several times with spring water and then salted, and put into firkins. The firkins were made by the local cooper.
- Light was a difficult thing to proide in those days. It was a usual thing to see a very thin candle the only light in a house. This candle was made by dipping a rush several times in heated tallow. It was considered wonderful advancement when some enterprising person secured what they called a mould. This article was made of metal and was about the size of an ordinary candle.
