- There is a story told in Aherlow that a great giant stood on a hill nearby and threw a very large rock meaning it to go to the top of the Galtees. It fell on the side of the mountain. He followed it with his sword, and split it in two.It is to be seen at the present day and is called the Giant's Rock.
