    Waller of Castletown-Waller, used give a feast to his tenants on the lawn.

    the ball a kick, and one of the men who were near him said, "That was a great kick you honour", and Waller replied. "I'd do the same if it was the Pope's head was there".
    They say the Wallers kicked out a Priest one time , and that from that day out, they could not stay in the house with rats. They were everywhere, in the bedrooms, diningrooms and kitchen, and they couldn't banish them. The rats stayed, and the Wallers left.
    (Note. The Land Commission, absorbed and divided the Castletown-Waller demesne about two years ago. The house, a Georgian mansion, was levelled, but before being razed, Fr. Tom Wall, now P.P. Ballingarry, then P.P. Kilcornan, said Mass in it. The last stages of that house were accordingly better than the first)

  2. The Cock and the Beam of Timber.
    There was a show (circus) here in Croom one time, and they had a cock that used to walk about the ring, and pull a big beam of timber after him. The beam was tied to his leg. A man who was carrying a bearth of hay on his back, looked in, and when he saw all the people looking at the cock, he asked them what they were looking at, and they said, "don't you see the big beam of timber he is pulling". "Tis only on yer eyes, it is", says the man, "There's nothing
