- Candlemas day falls on the 2nd February, it got that name years ago, because on that day all candles and candlesticks were put away and no artificial lighting was used from that day on, because the people used to go to bed with the sun and get up with the sun, and the candles and candlesticks were put up in a cupboard until the short days approach again. Here is a piece of poetry about Candlemas Eve:-Down with the rosemary, and so
