- Hidden Treasures.5. About two miles from Rathkeale on the road to Askeaton, there stands a large residence occupied by Major Massy. Along the road near the house there is a cross called Ruttle's Cross. Then turn to the left and go on straight until you meet a gate, and an avenue on the left hand side of the road. It is called the back avenue.Turn to left and go on past the house, turn to the right, and straight in front of you the treasure lies hidden. It is to the east of the house, and it lies a couple of hundred yards from the house. There is an underground passage from the house to the treasure, and if anyone stamped his foot on the ground he could hear the hollow sound in the ground. No attempt has been made to get it.Written by P. J. Madigan.Told by. John Madigan, N.T.
