    The people usually fast on that day from meath, eggs and butter.
    On May day it is said that if anyone pulled grass on flowers the fairies would carry them that night. On St John's day people usually light bonfires in honour of St John. Especially on the hill-side where the furzes are plentiful and they are very good to light. In the townland of Rathcahill the feast of the Blessed Virgin is honoured on 15th of August.
