Don't ever pick up a bit of bread that will fall from you at the table. Some poor creature will want it.
There was a great practice in Kilcolman too long ago, before the people used to be out so late. They were always in bed in about eleven o'clock. Didn't you ever hear. "The day for the living, the night for the dead?". They would always put the chairs in a ring about the fire and gather up the (?), because the poor wandering spirits would come. They were allowed poor crathurs to nest themselves for a couple of hours, and it wouldn't be right to keep them out of their place.
