  1. There were many industries carried on in this district long ago. Some of these industries were basket making, paper making, woollen manufacture, and soap manufacture.
    The most important of these industries was candle making. This is the way they were made. First the people got a mould. This was a vessel the same shape as a candle.
    It was about four inches high, and as thick as a candle. Then they got about three cotton threads as long as the mould.
    Then they would get fat, and render it. They would put the wick standing in the middle of the mould, and hold it standing upwards, and they
