    In olden times people had a lot of handy fittings such as hanging tables.
    This is how they were made.
    A carpenter made the table of very fine wood.
    There were two folding on one side and no legs on the other side.
    The side without legs was hinged to the centre of the back of the settle.
    There was a seat at each side in the settle for the people to sit there while eating their meals.
    When the table was finished with they folded in the two legs, faced it up to the ceiling, layed it against the wall and turned a bolt on it.
    In this way it was very handy.
    1. It was near the fire and when people were eating their very comfortable.
    2. When it was folded up it was out of the way and it gave room.
