  1. Long ago every kind of work was done by the hand. At the present time there is machinery to do all kinds of work, which in days gone by was done by the hand. An example is woollen material.
    The sheep were first washed and left dry with the sun. A man would then get a shears and shear the wool off them; it would then be gathered up, and taken to a carding mill which was at Dereeney. It was carded into little rolls.
    Next a woman would then get a spinning wheel, and spin the wool into thread. It was wound into spindles by the woollen wheel. She would then get her spindle of thread and wind them into a large ball. The black in a ball and the white in another. Each ball would contain about five pounds of thread.
