- There is in my district a Cross Road and is known by the name of "Owen's Cross". During the '98 period there was a secret society in the district known as "The White Feet" The British Government offered a large sum of money to anyone giving information regarding these men and their movements. There was a house near the cross and a man named Owen Gehan lived in it. This man was a member of this secret society and on hearing of the big reward given for information he informed on his comrades and consequently his life was in danger When he disclosed his information he was taken to Maryboro for safety by the Government. He received the promised reward and intended making his escape to some foreign land. "The White Feet" were to stand their trial and the evening before the trial Owen was allowed to visit home as he(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
