- The Townland of CoolnacurraghLong ago there was supposed to be a holy well on the estate of Mr Carter of Coolnacurragh. It was called St. Kieran's well. Around this well grew fourteen small ash trees. These ash trees were supposed to represent the stations of the cross. By degrees these ash trees were cut down all except one which remained growing near the well. There was a man in the district who wanted the tree for some special use. One night about twelve o'clock he went to cut down the tree. He climbed the tree and began to cut down the branches.
At that moment he saw his own house on fire. He could see the flames going up in the air. He ran home as quickly as his legs would carry him but when he reached the house he could see no fire at all. He went back to the tree and began to cut the branches as before. Shortly had he begun when he saw his house on fire again. He went home but he saw no fire. He never made any attempt afterwards to cut down the tree.- Bailitheoir
