In May 1691 a fight took place between the Williamites and the Jacobithes at Rathcoffey Bridge. The latter lost the day, Raparees and English soldiers fought near Rosenallid. Queen Elizabeth is supposed to have thanked some loyal people for having given her soldiers safe escort through the district. In the Slieve Bloom Mts not far from us Finn Mac Cool was in hiding when a boy, punded by two nurses. The people were so badly treated in the Penal Days that Piggott built a church for them.
