- The people only ate two meals a day in olden times. For their breakfast they used to have an oaten meal cake and milk and sometimes they used to have porridge and buttermilk. For their dinner they used to have potatoes and they would eat them with salt and onions and they were very glad to have them.
For their supper they would have oaten meal gruel
They only ate meat on Sundays, or on Christmas day, or on certain holidays. They used to bake the oaten meal cakes on a griddle and they used to cut the cake in pieces and measure the amount for each person.
The people used to work before their breakfast every morning. They did not drink tea very often. They did not eat much butter because they used to take it to the market to sell.- Faisnéiseoir
