  1. (continued from previous page)
Four corse beneath the whip and spur were pressing fast and hard.
A maiden stepped from out the door with hair a raven black.
She picked a trooper's pistol up, leaped on a horse's back.
As fast as ever a race horse was by a jockey rode.
She spured the noble charger down the Ballyellan road.
One of the hunted troopers who called on her to stand.
She gave him ready answer from the pistol in her hand
Then dashed she over ditch and dyke until she gained the height.
Where the rebels watch fire was burning through the night.
She sleeps beneath the green sod in Ballankillin chapel yard.
She saw the burning of the light that nothing can retard.
She lived till old she passed away peace to her soul I pray.
We have maidens like her still Thank God and plenty here to day.
