St. John's Day.
Feast of the assumption(August 15th) no one is this locality would do out-door work on this day, and they start their pilgrimage to Tubbermurray well.
St. Martin's Day - People in this locality always kill something for St. Martin's Day. and let its blood flow, in order that none of their cattle may die during the year. "St Martin takes before but not after" the old people say.
Hallowe'en. people in this locality play tricks to find out their future wives or husbands, they also say the fairies are out that night and they sweep the hearth well before they go to bed. They feast on apple-cake with a ring in it, whoever gets the ring will be married first.
St. John's Day. People light a bon-fire at crossroads on St. John's Eve, and young people collect to dance and play games, old people, too, sit round the fire and tell stories, when you are going home, you usually bring a sod of lighted turf in their hands to throw in their gardens(continues on next page)- Collector
