- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Long ago when Dan O Connell lived and all the schools were shut by the terrible Penal Laws and there was school kept in secret. These schools were called Hedge Schools.There was a hedge school in my townland which is Crosshill.It was in a little house. The stones were there until three months ago. Then my father Thomas Guihen built a barn in its place . The teachers name was Master Kipping . He was a very good teacher and he went about from place to place teaching the people.He also went about through the stones gathering the black matter out of which he made ink. He wrote with quills. They also wrote on slates with slate pencils .There was a blackboard also in the school on which the teacher wrote with lime(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
