My own District
My downland is Greagh situated in the Parish of Kilronan and in the Barony of Boyle.
There are thirteen houses in it consisting of thirty three people which is a small population in comparison with long ago. Most of the names are historical and Gilhooly is the most common name.
No one can tell with certainty how Greagh got its name but it is commonly supposed that Greagh means a wild marshy spot.
Michael Guihen is the olden man existing in the downland, but he has no knowledge of the Irish language.
Long ago the houses were more numerous that at present, but most of their inhabitants died owing to the Famine, and others emigrated to foreign lands.
