Old crafts
In olden times the women and young girls worked hard. The wove and spun all the linen and wooled n materials needed in the home.
The process of linen making. Flax was grown, and when ripe it was cut, and steeped in a bog hole and left there for three weeks. It was then spread out to dry and then "scutched" which means beetling it until all the sot matter was bruised out of it. All the girls went to one house for a day and scotched flax. The next day they went to the next house and so on until all the neighbors' flax would be scotched. It was then "heckled" by the "heckler" of the district. The "heckler" of this district was James Ryan, Lislea, Drumshanbo. It was then spun into thread on a spin-(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
