    Old customs on Bonfire night
The Bonfire night is and was always held with great joy by almost every family.
This was one of the pagan customs that St. Patrick allowed to be practised all over Ireland. In years gone by the Bonfires were usually held at crossroads or on top of a high hill. Many young boys and girls assembled around those, and sang songs, danced played music and told stories of yore.
Before departing one of the crowd grew a lighted coal stick into the nearest potato crop to prevent the blight.
