They burned turf and rotten sticks and for light they made rush candles . First they would have to go out in the fields and pick the the rushes, and then come back and peel them , then they fried them in a special pan that they had and when that was done they put them up on what they called a hob behind the fire to dry , but if it was a fine day they would put them out to dry and when they were dry they lit ono them but if it did not show enough of light they would light two or three more of them.
