   We have a churn at home and it is about five feet tall and two feet wide. It is shaped like a barrel. It stands on a frame. It is called an end-over-end churn. It is about three years old. There is a handle at the side and the churn turns on two wheels on the frame. It is worked with the hand. We churn once a week in Winter and twice in the Summer. The lid is very heavy. There is a rubber band around the edge and it is kept on with four large screws that are attached on to the churn. There is also on the lid a ventilation for letting out the air, while the churning is going on. There is a small glass on the lid, so that you see, when it is made. My mother makes the churn and when the butter comes on, there is a plug in the side near the bottom to draw off the buttermilk. The butter is washed in the churn also. If a neighbour comes in while the churning is in progress
