  1. Long ago the people were not so rich as they are now and the people could not get away to the doctor as often as there was sickness in the homes for they had no way of going about. So they made their own cures for sicknesses.
    When the children took whooping cough the parents gave them a powder which they got and it helped to ease the sickness.
    When they took chicken pox, measles, or mumps, they had some cure but I do not know what the cure was.
    When a person took tooth ache he put a piece of salt [?] in the tooth. When they took warts they reddened a pin and rubbed on it. When they took chilblains they put paraffin oil on them. When they took sore eyes the bathed them with water. Long ago they used herbs and poultices these were often used.
    Some people have the gift of being able to cure warts. If there were seven sons, one after the other, the seventh son was supposed to have a cure. If two people of the same name were married and
