   "Come along," the little man said once more and he brought him into a house where he saw a girl in bed with the hook he lost stuck in her back.

   "See what you've done," said she, "so now you've got to marry me"

   Mr Maines said he would not. She said he'd have to, but he said he'd do no such thing. He took the hook out of her back and asked the little man to leave him back where he got him.

   "I will stick to my promise," the little man said, "Come along."

   Next place that Maines found himself was back at his turf again and the little man was gone.

   About six months after Maines went out on a boat on the lake, but when he was some
