  1. Chickweed: The fresh leaves bruised and applied to any kind of old sore or ulcer and changed three times daily rarely failed to cure.
    Colts' foot: The bruised leaves were used for drawing matter out of sores and healing them.
    The leaves were boiled too and the juice was drunk for all kinds of coughs and colds.
    Elder: The inner bark steeped in water for a day or two-- the juice strained off taken in small doses was a cure for epilepsy.
    The berries were sometimes used as a very strong purgative.
