- There was a gentleman farmer lived long ago and his wife died. When she was very bad and given over for death he told her that any request she would ask would be granted for her. She said that she only wanted one request and that was what ever calf the canny cow would have to give him to her only son Líam mo croidhe Éireann. The canny cow calfed and the calf she had was the bulaínín ceannan dubh and the father gave him to Líam. She would not leave him go to any school but putting him herding cows. She would put her own children in the parlour and they would have the best of food but Líam should eat roasted potatoes near the fire. Inspite of all that Líam was very strong and fat. She had three daughters the eldest of them had three eyes, the second eldest had two(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
