- Long ago people used to light bon-fires on this night. They used also hunt the cows around the field with a burning bush. This was supposed to bring the cows to dairy.
- On the eve of Michaelmas, that is the 29th Sept everyone is supposed to have a goose for supper.There is an old rhyme which says"On Michaelmas night by right divine
The goose is choosen to be the swine" - (1) An apple is put into a pan in a tub of water. Whoever can get the apple out of the water in his mouth is allowed to eat it.
