  1. St Attracta is the patroness of the West of Ireland and the patron Saint of the Diocese of Achonry. She was the first Irish Sister of Charity. She was the contemporary of St. Patrick. This Virgin heroine was the daughter of an Ulster chieftain named Talchan. She was endowed with great beauty and singular attractions.
    On this account when she came of age many suitors sought her hand in marriage. One day a young, strong, fearless, and well armed chieftain came and asked her father to let him marry St. Attracta. She refused and her father was very angry with
