- The most frequent time of the year marriages does be is at Shrove. The old people say that if any couple got married on Monday Wedensday or Friday they will be unlucky. There used to be matches made in our district. The father of the bride used to give her a fortune or cattle.
They used to be a wedding feast in the bride's home. "Straw boys" used to come to the wedding and they used to wear woman's clothes and a cloth over their heads. There used to be a wedding procession and hauling home held. The men used to race on horses and who ever would win would get a bottle of whiskey.
