    The people called this serpent Serein and this rock was called Carrig Serein and it is to be seen still.
    St Patrick followed this serpent. When he was going to the place where the serpent was, it was getting near sunset.
    St Patrick came to a house and he told the woman of the house to get a piece of lard for him.
    She gave him the lard he made a candle out of it.
    Then he lit it and stood at the door of the house and watched to see the serpent's light.
    No sooner did the serpent see St Patrick's light than it fell dead.
    When the other serpent escaped from St Patrick he went to a little island in a lake in the north of the country.
    St Patrick pursued this serpent
