Blake and Culkin, accompanied by one of the best runners in Connaught. Páidíg O'Floinn set off for Wexford. On their way they met a party of Red Coats who blocked their way. Flynn thought of a plan. He drove from a nearby field a herd of cattle onto the road towards the soldiers. Culkin and Blake took cover inside the fences on each side of the road whie Flynn drove the cattle forward. Blake and Culkin blazed into the Red Coats behind the fences unseen while the Red Coats fired into the cattle. After many of the Red Coats had been killed or wounded the remainder fled and the party reached Wexford without further incident. On reaching Vinegar Hill they saw Father Murphy's church on fire and thought that Father Murphy was inside. They held a
