   That night John and Mrs Quilter were sitting near the fire and again the cockroaches began to appear. Soon large numbers of them were creeping around the kitchen floor.
   "Oh! John," said Mrs Quilter "I thought you told me that you had all these ugly things destroyed". "Ah! my good woman", said John, "they are the temperate ones!"
