They "possed" the linen in the race in their bare feet even on frosty mornings in March and April. More of it was manufactured for into sacks or bags for holding meal and the farmers could buy whatever size of pieces they required at the Mill. What wasn't required for home use was sent away.
The wages paid were small about 6d to 8d for labourers and a skilled man about 1/- a day.
In the same townland - Bushill the fair of Ballinamore was held, along the lake shore at the back of Darcy's Cottage. The fair itself was held on the old road that then ran through Garadice demesne but about one hundred years ago or over when the Percys ruled in Garadice they extended the Demesne and made a new road - closing down the old with the result that the fair was after that date held in the town of Ballinamore.
The road referred to is the present county road that is in use to day. The formation of the old road can yet be traced. It crossed the "Fattening Park" at the back of Darcy's Cottage and right through the Demesne past Quinns in Killaphort and on towards Newtowngore.
