- In older times travelling folk used to go around the country begging alms, as they still do yet. They would not do any work. They mostly stayed a few nights at a time. Those that visited this district most frequently were John Neeson and Stephen Daly.
John Neesno was a very large man and he always carried on creel on his back. He used to collect all the vegetables he could get during the day, and sell them in the nearest town in the evening. Stephen Daly was a very small man. He used to tell stories and the people used to gather around the fire and listen to him. Sometimes he would pretend to be a relation to the people if he thought they would be kind to him.- Bailitheoir
