- On St Stephen's Day the boys dress up and go out in the "Wren". They go from house to house taking a wren with them, and they collect money to bury the wren. They dance and sing in every house. On St Patrick's Day the people wear Shamrock. On Good Friday they make the Stations of the Cross. On Easter Sunday the people eat four or five eggs each. On May Eve the people stay in because the fairies are out.
On St John's Night the people light bonfires.
On St Martin's Day they draw blood.
On Hallow'een they crack nuts and eat apples. - St. Bridget's Day falls on the first of February. On St. Bridget's Day the children go "in the biddy". Some children dress up and go around collecting money. In this district they have discontinued the practice for the past ten years. When collecting they used to take with them a timber doll, dressed in clothes.
