- People began to wear boots when they were about six years when beginning to go to school. There are no accounts of people who never wore boots or shoes. Children at present go barefoot in Summer. There are no customs or beliefs connected with the water used for washing the feet. Boots are repaired locally. There are three shoemakers in the district. Shoemaking has been a tradition in their families. There were more shoemakers in the former times than at the present days because people like to buy shoes in the shops rather than get them made at home. Clogs are worn now by an occasional person in winter. Leather was never made in the district at any time. Foot coverings of any special kind of leather sheep skin, untanned hide were never worn. There are no sayings or proverbs connected with the above.
