They used to make two horses pull it. They learned how to cut dykes (dikes) with a spade and an ass. They would get a chain and tie it from the asses collar to the spade and they would drive the ass in the dike and the spade would scrape the soil three inches deep. If you would go three times on each dike you would have enough mowl for the patotoes.When the ridges are made the farmers wife would make slits for the ridges.Then manure is put on the ridges and the soil is put over that.When they grow up the stalks are green and the farmer sprays them with a spraying machine and spray to prevent them from being blighted. As they are growing they are being sprayed again , and sometimes a third time.Then the weeds are taken from them so that they would be easy to dig them. There are many sorts of potatoes, Champions, white Champions , Up -to Dates, American Champions, Queens ,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
