  1. A Local Song

The good old summer is come again

The good old summer is come again
    The fields are getting green
The primroses are rising quite plainly to be seen
I heard the cuckoo on the hill t'was calling loud and high
I heard the thrush upon the bush and the lark singing in the sky.
    II
The green green corn is bearded.
The fields are not red now.
The crops they are all planted by the farmers and their plough.
I saw the cows out at their grass.
They will give milk sweet and good.
They are grazing on good pasture
Where they can get their food.
    III
I saw the flowers all in bloom, and the nice red roses as well
I saw the larks all building their nests down in the foggy dell,
But the heat is so intensive as the morning
