- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)On the fickle harvest on Scotalnd's shore;
They were returning - their hearts a burning
To spend the winter at home once more.In Burtonport on the train's arrival
Some friends were waiting with an open boat;
With nineteen souls there, their boat departed
To bear them home to their homes remote.With their merry laughter the shore resounded
On that bitter night as they left the quay;
But merry laughter was changed to weeping
When the boat capsized in the moaning sea.What tongue can tell of that moment's horror
When their boat so frail struck a hidden reef?
Loud cries arose for mercy to Heaven
From those poor ones in their hour of grief.Throughout the night 'mid ocean's crashing
The fight went on twixt death and life;
At dawn of morning their boat was sighted
With one survivor from that night of strife.The Island's grief will be long and bitter,
For the heavy loss which they have sustained;
But the prayers of the humble island dwellers(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
