  1. This is how my uncle prepares the ground for the potato crop. He ploughs a stubble field. Then he harrows it and makes the clay as fine as possible. The next process is to make drills with a plough. These being made he spread the manure between the drills and on these he shakes a little lime.
    Then the land is prepared for the potatoes. A small seed potato or a scollán is placed on the manure. Each scollán is placed a distance of about four inches from its neighbour. When a drill is sown with the
