- When swallows fly low there will be rain because the insects are borne down by the weight of the atmosphere.
When sea-gulls come up on to the land there will be rain as the worms on which they feed will come to the top of the ground.
If a crane is seen flying down the river towards the sea. It is a sign of rain.
If crickets go out there is to be a spell of good weather.
If the smoke goes up straight the air is light and good weather is coming.
Stormy weather is foretold by ducks making a great noise with their wings.
A mist on the hills foretells rain.
