- In older times the people used not [sic] have much cattle. They had no place to put them only into big stretches of land called commons. There was no fences so that the cattle could go anywhere they liked.
The only method the people had for preventing this was by putting “tyings” on the cattle. They used to tie one of their horns and one of their front feet together. They called that king of a “tying” a “Crimnash” [?]. They tied one of their front feet to one of their back feet. They called that a “side-long”.
