- Long ago people didn't wear shoes until they were about twelve or thirteen years of age and sometimes eighteen. There are accounts of people who never wore shoes during their lives. In this district children usually go barefoot in summer and parts of spring. The feet water is generally thrown out after washing the feet because it is believed that it is unlucky to keep it inside during the night. My father repairs our boot and shoes and does repairing for a great many others.There are no shoemakers in the district at present, but long ago there were up to three or four living here.
