    Long ago it was a custom for the people to marry in Shrove. They say it is unlucky to marry on Fridays and Saturdays. About a week before the marriage the match took place between the man and the woman. If it was a suitable match it took place. A few days before the marriage the friends of the woman walked the land to see had the man a good means of living. It is generally the woman that must have the money. She should give the money to the man a few
