  2. In the year 1880 Lough Key was frozen for six weeks and the ice was about a foot in depth. All the men of Smutterna used to walk on the ice to the big bog. However, a man called Lundy Foot came out from Boyle to cross the lake and the thickness of the ice lured him on to his doom. The ice broke and he was drown.
