  1. Matches long ago were much the same as they are played to day. Any teams could play. There were seventeen or nineteen men on each side. The way the team was picked was there were six backs, six forwards, two middle field and two wing men in each team. The match may be played in any district. it was a parish versus parish match.
    Some times two teams used meet half way between their own district and one would try, suppose, to kick the ball into Ennis and another into Kilmaley and whoever got it
