  1. Potatoes are grown by every farmer in Ireland. The majority of farmers only plant about one acre, consisting of the early varieties and the main crop.
    The field is ploughed about the month of November so that the frost will help to make the ground brittle. It is then harrowed and cross ploughed in February. After some time it is again harrowed and cleared of weeds. The ground is then (of weeds) opened into drills about 26 ins apart by a
